Summer Term:

Wow, what an exciting half term we have had so far. The children loved our trip to Brackenhurst, where we had our Stone Age Experience. The children behaved exceptionally well and completed lots of activities such as, spear throwing, orienteering, den building, cave painting and medallion making. We really embraced the live of a Stone Age man or woman and the day was fantastic! We also took part in our Language Day recently, where the children were able to research their chosen country Italy! The children made group posters based around famous inventions, facts and the culture of Italy, which they showcased in assembly in the morning and then got to try lots of tasty Italian treats in the afternoon such as, pizza, salami, mozerella and tiramisu! We were all very stuffed by the end of the day but had an excellent time. Feel free to look at our pictures to see how much fun we have been having this term. We are now looking forward to putting on our Year Five performance to really show how hard we have been working this term. We hope you are able to come and see it and will enjoy it as much as we have!

Thanks for your continued support,

5CL and Miss Lynch.

I have been really impressed with how hard 5CL have been working this half term. We have started to write our mystery stories, which I am very excited to read. The children have planned their own stories and have included lots of exciting dialogue, characterisation and action. Also, the children have been working really hard during rehearsals for our Year Five performance 'Pirates of the Currybean'. The children have started to develop their characters, their tone of voice and their movements/gestures. Some of the children have also helped Mr Hurst design lots of exciting props and backdrops. We are getting very excited to show you what our hard work and effort has achieved and hope you are looking forward to it.

Thanks for your continued support,

5CL and Miss Lynch

Spring Term:

Class 5CL were very excited when we had our creepy and cuddly animals in to visit us from the company Animal Lab. The children were extremely well behaved and loved exploring the life cycles of the animals shown to us. We were fortunate enough to see rats, ghekos, snakes, tarantulas and scorpians during our session. From this session, the children sketched an incredibly detailed drawing of their favourite animal and were able to apply some facts they had learnt during our Science sessions. I was very proud of the class and they were extremely brave!

Some pictures are below... Look at them if you dare smile

Thanks,

Miss Lynch

Welcome back to class 5CL's class website.

Welcome back to school after your Christmas break. I hope you all had a lovely festive period and a well earned rest! We have had an excellent start back to term with our 'Wow' day introducing the children to their Spring Term topic 'Live & Deadly'. During this day, the children researched habitats and were able to use their new found knowledge to create a suitable habitat for their own invented animals. Children worked in groups using a variety of materials to show how their animal adapts, survives and moves within their surroudings (see pictures to join in the fun!) Furthermore, children created a non-chronological fact file on their animal creating 'deadly defences, marvellous movements and sickly senses' to add further information and facts.

We also took part in our termly Growth Mindset day, where the children became engineers to overcome hurdles and tackle problems with resillience and determination! The children designed their own aeroplanes based on 'Rosie Revere's' (a growth mindset text) to help her achieve better success. They had to test their designs and edit them to achieve a maximum distance when thrown but also time spent in the air. The class were inspired by ideas seen in the yearly 'Red Bull' competition and adapted their planes according to competitors successes and failures seen on the video. We had an excellent day and some children managed to throw their planes the whole length of the school hall - not easy!

Let's hope the fun continues throughout the Spring Term and we carry on having a growth mindset and love for learning!

 Autumn Term:

Welcome to class 5CL's class website.

We have had an excellent start back at school focusing on our topic World War II. The children started the term with an exciting 'wow' day, introducing them to the topic and finding out lots of interesting things about life during World War II. The children took part in lots of fun activities such as: learning all about The British Empire, listening to air raid sirens and going into a bomb shelter and receiting a World War II poem. The children had lots of fun and seemed to really engage with our Autumn topic, which was lovely to see.

The children have all been showing they have a growth mindset as well so far this term and Gerald has been making a regular appearance within the classroom! It has been lovely to see the children coming back to school with a determined attitude and a willingness to learn lots of new things.

Finally, we are planning a fabulous trip to Perlethorpe Education Centre where the children will experience what it was like to be an evacuee.  This is always an amazing day and the children learn so much more by being involved in the role-play - which we are all very much looking forward to.

Year 5 Trip - 5CL had a fun filled day out at Perlethorpe for our Autumn term trip. We found out what happened to evacuees when they arrived at their destination and were billeted (which was scarier then we thought if you were sent to a horrible family).  We got to sit in an Anderson shelter and experienced an 'air-raid'!  We then did some orienteering which involved identifying the planes of the allies and the axis countries, as well as using our knowledge of rationing to create our own rationing document. It was a fantastic day and we all learned lots about WWll, even if some things were a bit shocking!
